Scottish EDGE Round 9 Opens, offering support of up to £150,000

Britain’s biggest business competition, Scottish EDGE, is offering Scotland’s entrepreneurial businesses the chance to pitch for up to £150,000 in funding and support. As of today, businesses are able to apply for the competition’s ninth round, with a total prize fund of £1.3 million available. To date, 205 businesses have received the coveted Scottish EDGE award, generating 641 Scottish jobs, producing an additional £31.80 million in turnover, and receiving £28.36 million in external investment as a result of the fund’s support.

Announcing the launch of Scottish EDGE round nine, Scottish EDGE CEO, Evelyn McDonald, said:

We’re delighted that, two months after we awarded £1.27 million to forty businesses in our eighth round, we are today inviting Scotland’s newest high-growth potential, innovative businesses to apply for Scottish EDGE funding and support. Over the last four years, we have shown that offering businesses some much-needed growth capital, alongside a non-financial support package provided by a variety of industry experts, can have a huge impact on business success and the Scottish economy on the whole. Having received a total of 239 applications in our last competition round, we expect the standard of the competition to be high.

Applications to Scottish EDGE round nine will be accepted through the competition website until September 7th, 2016 at 2pm, requiring an application form and a short video pitch. Applications will then be assessed by a number of independent, expert panels before being shortlisted to participate in a Scottish EDGE semi-final or the final of our subsidiary competition categories, the Higgs EDGE, Wild Card EDGE or Young EDGE. Prizes of up to £150,000 will be awarded at a full day pitching event in mid-December.

Commenting on the launch of applications, Economy Secretary Keith Brown said:

Over the last four years the Scottish EDGE has established itself as a crucial part of our nation’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.  The Scottish Government established the fund to boost jobs and growth in our economy and to date a total of £7m has been awarded to 205 companies creating almost 650 jobs in growing companies. I would encourage businesses to pitch for a share of the fund. We want to give a head-start to those who are building the CAN DO nation we all aspire to see.
