EDGE Alumni Good News — June 2016

You wouldn’t have thought that we’d have any more news to dish out after our Scottish EDGE round eight finals day last week, but our alumni have been busy too and that’s what we would like to share with you today. During June, our alumni racked up a number of awards, began crowdfunding campaigns, placed new products on sale and more. Here are all the details.

Awards
Well done to Lobster Pod, who won the Fishing News Technical Innovation Award this month. These are the only industry awards and winners are voted for by members of the industry. The ceremony took place at Aberdeen Hilton Hotel and TV chef Simon Rimmer from Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch was the compere. A brilliant achievement for the team and fantastic recognition of their work from the fishing industry.

Business Launch
Congratulations to Social Screen – one of our first ever Wild Card EDGE winning businesses – who launched their business to the public at the Edinburgh International Film Festival earlier this month. The business offers film-makers the opportunity to create their own easy-to-manage website for their film, while also enabling film-makers to run an equity or reward crowdfunding campaign, engage and grow their audience, sell their film through pay per view, and get noticed by distributors. We’re looking forward to seeing the industry’s uptake of this great new service.

New Products
JustBe Botanicals – one of our Scottish EDGE round three winners – have just delivered the first batch of their new all natural skincare products to three London-based WholeFood stores which is incredibly exciting. If you are in the High Street Kensington, Richmond or Piccadilly areas, pop in to a store and try the products for yourself!

Crowdfunding Campaigns
Recent winners, Robotical, have launched a crowdfunding campaign to produce the first batch of their 3D-printable, walking, dancing robots called ‘Marty.’ Aiming to make learning about programming, electronics, and mechanical engineering a fun and engaging process, Robotical’s product is great for kids, makers, educators and anybody who just wants a cute robot. You can find out more about the campaign and get your hands on one of the first robots here.

That’s all the news for this month. Keep an eye on our social media for all the latest updates from Scottish EDGE and our alumni!
