EDGE Alumni Good News — May 2016

Spring has arrived and so has a tonne of good news for our growing pool of alumni. While we’ve been out and about finishing the semi-final and final assessment stages of Scottish EDGE round eight, our alumni have been busy completing investment rounds, winning awards, and more. Here are the details.

Closing a £545k Investment Round
Huge congratulations go first to Appointedd, recipients of Scottish EDGE funding in our first ever final, who announced the closure of a £545,000 investment round earlier this month. The Edinburgh-based bookings app’s latest funding round was led by angel syndicate Equity Gap, and includes the backing of Skyscanner founder and CEO, Gareth Williams. The company will use the latest funding to grow their team and expand further in overseas markets.

Awards
Well done to Carol Smille of DiaryDoll, winners of Scottish EDGE Round 4, who was presented with the Sports Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 award at the Sports Business Innovation Awards. Held in Glasgow on May 19th, the awards celebrate the work of innovative sports entrepreneurs, businesses and community projects.

Engage Invest Exploit
A number of Scottish EDGE alumni were selected to feature at Informatics Ventures’ latest Engage Invest Exploit (EIE) conference, Scotland’s largest investor showcase event. Exhibiting and presenting on the day were AmiqusAppointeddCity Room RentalsConnect-InepipoleFreedom One LifeMindMatenooQPick Protectionsnap40Storii and Studio 2080. For us, EIE represents the next step in many of our alumni’s entrepreneurial journeys, and we wish them success going forward.

New Alumni
This month, we’ve also added to our growing alumni community with the announcement of our Wild Card EDGEYoung EDGE and Higgs EDGEwinners and we look forward to tracking their progress in the months and years ahead.
